Assignment 1

In the beginning of the book, National Audubon Society Guide To Nature Photography, Tim Fitzharris, informs the reader of an array of equipment essential for different kinds of digital nature photography. He explains the uses of different tools such as tripods, vests, reflectors, and lenses, he also explains how these tools can make the difference from a good photograph to a great photograph. One of the most important tools a nature photographer can take with them is a tripod, the tripod allows the camera to stay steady, in turn the pictures will be more clear. Tim Fitzharris also discusses what it is like working in the field and some pointers for working in the field. In this chapter of the book Fitzharris elaborates on things such as easier tripod tripping, how vests make your life easier, what to do when in wet conditions, and field safety. Fitzharris notes that a way to avoid fatigue while carrying a tripod throughout the field is to carry the tripod like the "full nelson" wrestling move. Wearing a vest to carry equipment is better and more efficient than carrying equipment in a backpack, because the equipment is more readily available to you and everything can stay organized and safe. When in wet conditions such as rain be sure to protect your camera from moisture. Finally, when working in the field safety is key, things that Fitzharris recommends that a photographer carry are, a cell phone, walkie-talkies (if working with a partner), a small radio, and most important if going out alone let someone know where you are going and when you plan on returning!
